Developing new medications and pushing the frontiers of medicine forward is not easy or everyone would be doing it. So we really need people who understand that, you know what, it's not always going to be easy, but I like that. And I want to be part of improving it and getting it to where it needs to go.

The other thing that I believe makes Acorda so special and why people want to come and work for this organization is the visibility. They really understand the contributions that they make and how it impacts the success of the organization. And in a company this size that is so important and we take a lot of time to recognize and reward people for good work. The other part that I think is so significant about this organization is that even though the folks work so hard, boy, do we love to have fun. We have company events. We do all sorts of things that bring people together on a social level so that when they're sitting across the table and they have to do the hard stuff, it makes it a little bit easier.

One of my favorite experiences is that when we have our holiday parties and our softball games and our Halloween parties, many times people will bring their significant others. And routinely every year, many of the spouses will just come to me after and say, you know, this is the first time in my husband/wives/significant other's career where I look forward to the parties as well.
