The Acorda Scientific Excellence Award was created to encourage young people to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). By working with WGCH AM and The Lisa Wexler Radio Show, this award showcases the academic talent in Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield counties. One student per week is selected to receive the award during the school year (September to June).

Each week, the winning student is interviewed by Ms. Wexler for the radio program, “The Acorda Scientific Excellence Award”. The program airs every Saturday morning on AM 1490 WGCH. To hear interviews from past Acorda Scientific Excellence Award winners winners click here. Winners will receive a plaque in recognition of their outstanding research, and their school will receive an award for display.

Are you a high school student in Westchester, Putnam, or Fairfield counties doing exciting research in one of the STEM fields? Then we hope you will apply for the Acorda Scientific Excellence Award. As an Acorda Scientific Excellence Award winner, we want you to be recognized for your amazing work and to inspire the future research students from your school.

“My partner and I were honored to have had the opportunity to share our research with Acorda. Teaching people about the importance of Fragile X research promotes awareness and exposing people to this information can inspire them to pursue a career in neuroscience.”

-Gracia Acheson, Pelham Memorial High School, Pelham, NY

“Winning the Acorda Scientific Excellence Award served as a reminder that my pre-translational research could impact the community around me. Being recognized by both the Lisa Wexler Radio Show and Acorda Therapeutics made me appreciate that even preliminary research — a small advance in this field of orthopaedic research — was recognized and appreciated in both the scientific and lay communities, and that one of the beauties of research is those small steps in the direction of progress.”

-Jessica Occhiogrosso, Byram Hills High School, Armonk, NY

To the right is information on how to apply for the Award as well as the downloadable application and teacher/mentor recommendation forms. Acorda is now accepting applications.
